The change most guides missed
OfferUp removed shipping from new listings on 23 September 2025 and from existing listings on 21 October 2025, stating it has "no plans to bring back nationwide shipping at this time." With shipping gone, the 12.9% shipped-sale fee went with it. If a 2026 article quotes that rate, it hasn't been updated in a year.

The real comparison isn't fees
At $0 versus 14%, OfferUp obviously wins on cost. The question is whether a local-only sale is possible at all. Local pickup means: no shipping work, no packing, cash in hand, no fees — but only buyers who can physically collect, no buyer protection, and meeting strangers.
It's genuinely better for furniture, appliances, exercise equipment, anything bulky where shipping would eat the margin anyway. It's useless for anything niche, where the buyer who wants your item is three states away.
Fees aren't the whole story
A lower fee on an item that never sells is worth nothing. Before moving inventory, weigh buyer volume (eBay is the largest of these by a wide margin and sells nearly every category), category fit, and your time — listing the same item twice is real work.
